Frederick Taylor & His Family

Frederick Taylor and his family have a long and close relationship with Dereham and it's pubs Fred was licensee of:-
  • Half Moon - 1888-1890
  • Bull - 1891-1903
  • Lord Nelson - 1904-1912
  • Earl of Leicester - 1917-1923
When Fred died his son William George Taylor took the licence of the Earl of Leicester and remained there until the 1950's.

Fred's daughter Laura married William Charles Rogers who was licensee of the George Hotel from 1913 to 1928. Laura Rogers carried on after her husbands death until 1931. Her daughter Lilly Rogers was 14 when her father died, she left school and helped her mother run The George.

An ancestor of William Charles Rogers was listed in the 1784 Universal British Directory as John Rogers, victualler at the Gunn, Church Street, Dereham.

This information given to me by Jean Strange, daughter of Lilly Rogers.
